Meet NEFAC’s Summer Legal Fellows and First Amendment Interns

The New England First Amendment Coalition is pleased to announce two law school legal fellows and three undergraduate interns who will be supporting the organization throughout the summer:

Sophia Brown | Rising second-year law student at New England Law | Boston and a graduate of Boston University’s journalism program.
Lindsey Vickers | Rising second-year law student at the University of Washington School of Law and a graduate of Boston University’s journalism program.
Claire Kelley | Rising junior at Roger Williams University who is studying Public Relations, French and Political Science.
Catharine Li | Rising sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who is studying journalism and public policy.
Tania Sequeira | Rising sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who is studying political science and communications.

LEGAL FELLOWS

Sophia Brown is a rising second-year law student at New England Law | Boston, where she serves as a researcher with the Transitional Justice Project and a pro-bono advocate with the Identity Affirmation Project. Brown graduated cum laude from Boston University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. While at BU, she focused on data-based investigative journalism, reporting for GBH and the New England Center for Investigative Reporting, The Boston Globe, the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at the University of Maryland, BU News Service, and The Daily Free Press. She was the lead panelist for a student panel on data reporting instruction at the 2020 NICAR conference.

Lindsey Vickers is a rising second-year law student at the University of Washington School of Law. She is an alumna of the Boston University Master’s of Journalism program and the University of Utah. Before returning to school to pursue her law degree, Vickers covered the sleep and health beat at Forbes, Healthline, and Reviewed, which is part of the USA Today network. She aspires to work in media law and support journalists on First Amendment issues, freedom of information endeavors, copyright violation claims, and government transparency and accountability efforts. 

FIRST AMENDMENT INTERNS

Claire Kelley (she/they) is a rising junior at Roger Williams University who is majoring in public relations and minoring in French and political science. As a former treasurer of the Society of Professional Journalists chapter at RWU, Kelley has a strong foundation in media ethics and communication.

Catharine Li is a rising sophomore studying journalism and public policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She previously served as Communications Officer for New Voices Texas, a student-led campaign advocating for state legislation to protect student press freedom and limit censorship of scholastic media.

Tania Sequeira is a junior political science and communications student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is enrolled in the university’s Commonwealth Honors College, where she also works as a peer advisor. Sequeira is interested in policy analytics and journalism.


NEFAC was formed in 2006 to advance and protect the Five Freedoms of the First Amendment, including the principle of the public’s right to know. We’re a broad-based organization of people who believe in the power of an informed democratic society. Our members include lawyers, journalists, historians, academics and private citizens.
