First Amendment Intern
Part-Time
Spring Semester

About the New England First Amendment Coalition | NEFAC is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit non-political organization that advances the five freedoms of the First Amendment and the public’s right to know about government through education, advocacy and defense. Founded in 2006, the coalition is New England’s leading provider of First Amendment and open government educational programming and services. Learn more about the organization at nefac.org.

Position Description | First Amendment Interns can work remotely from any location while contributing to exciting First Amendment and open government projects. Previous work completed by interns include creating educational programming for journalists, researching public records and open meeting laws, leading outreach efforts to newsrooms in the region and documenting how individuals are exercising their First Amendment rights. Students enjoy the flexibility of choosing specific projects and will work closely with the executive director and members of the organization’s Board of Directors, many of whom are active reporters and editors. Strong research and writing skills required. A background in journalism is preferable, but not necessary. Frequent conference calls are required so students must have access to phone and/or Zoom during normal business hours.

Compensation | Students are expected to secure a stipend from their institution’s non-profit internship program, public interest foundation or other department offering funding for work on behalf of 501(c)(3) organizations.

Start Date | Spring Semester.

Location | Remote.
