It’s #GivingTuesday — Give Your Support to the First Amendment and Open Government

Our freedom to learn about our leaders and to speak about what matters most is always at risk. The New England First Amendment Coalition is celebrating 10 years of protecting those freedoms and helping to hold our government accountable.

Help us now prepare for another decade of advocacy.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Your support helps us strengthen watchdog journalism.

Our annual New England First Amendment Institute is a three-day investigative journalism workshop provided at no cost to 25 journalists and editors. Our all-volunteer Board of Directors frequently participates in journalism programs to help empower New England newsrooms. We provide free media education online to New England journalists.

Your support helps us advocate for accountable state government.

We are helping the effort to reform the Massachusetts public records law. We urged more transparency within Vermont law enforcement. Our coalition is calling for accountability in Rhode Island. We warned of the danger in restricting health data in Maine. We argued against a New Hampshire law that banned photos of election ballots.

Your support helps us join national efforts to protect the press and inform communities.

We joined a campaign to protect a journalist’s unpublished interviews from disclosure. We argued for immediate access to civil court documents in a case with consequence to all journalists. Our coalition called for better information policies among federal agencies.

Help us celebrate 10 years of advocacy and prepare for a decade more. With your support, we will remain vigilant and vocal as the country ushers in a new presidential administration.
